Low Vision Department

Low vision is a visual impairments that results in loss of eyesight that makes everyday tasks difficult. A person with low vision may find it difficult or impossible to accomplish activities such as reading, writing, shopping, watching television, driving a car or recognizing faces.

This is critical especially in children since many concepts developed in childhood are learned incidentally through vision. Children with low vision may have incompletely developed concepts or miss them entirely. At Sabatia Eye Hospital we have a Low Vision department and we try to assist such children experience as much of their world as possible.

The department is fully functional after the return of our vision therapists toward end of 2010. We have visited and assisted various schools for the blind among them Kibos, St. Odas and Kitale based St. Francisca.

Low Vision department is a very critical department that caters for clients with irreversible poor vision and that is why we are immensely grateful to CBM Switzerland for their support. Freinds Church Sabatia Eye Hospital is priviledged to be the manager for low vision cluster grant on behalf of Kikuyu, Kwale and SPARK eye hospitals.
